How Keyword Tracker Displays Data for Child and Parent ASINs
Many Amazon listings are structured as parent-child relationships, where a single parent ASIN can have multiple child ASINs (different sizes, colors, or variations). Because keyword performance can be tracked at either level, Keyword Tracker (KT) needs a clear, consistent way to decide which data to show you when you're viewing a specific product's display page. This logic ensures you always see the most relevant and accurate keyword data for the exact ASIN you're working on.
Here’s how this works, so you always know what you’re seeing.
1. Child data always takes priority
If you’re viewing a child ASIN and it’s already tracked in KT, you’ll always see the child’s data. KT will not automatically switch you to the parents’ data.
2. When the child ASIN isn't tracked, parent data can fill the gap
If the child ASIN isn’t tracked, but its parent ASIN is and has at least one keyword, KT will show the parent’s data instead. This lets you see performance at the parent level until the child is tracked.
If the parent also has no keywords, the listing is marked as not tracked, and you’ll see the usual empty state.
3. Switching between Child and Parent views
When both the child and parent are tracked, and the parent has at least one keyword, KT will show the child view first. You can switch between the child and parent views using the tabs at the top of the panel.
Keep in mind, the Parent tab is view-only. You won’t see options to edit or add keywords there. To change parent-level keywords, go to the Keyword Tracker Web tool page.
4. Keywords are always added to the view you're currently on
Any keywords you add or edit will apply to the product you’re currently viewing:
- If you’re viewing child data, new keywords are added to the child ASIN.
- If you’re viewing parent data, this view is read-only. You can’t add or edit keywords from here.
5. Parent data is always clearly labeled
To make it clear which ASIN’s data you’re seeing, KT will show “Parent Data Only” in the UI whenever parent-level data appears on a child PDP.
What is the benefit of using Keyword Tracker Snap View?
Previously, checking a keyword's ranking on Amazon required leaving the page, opening Helium 10, searching for the ASIN, and navigating to Keyword Tracker. Now, you can view rankings, Boost status, tags, and add keywords directly from the Amazon product page. For deeper analysis of ranking trends and history, Keyword Tracker (web) remains the best option.
