Introduction
Welcome to Helium 10 MCP (Model Context Protocol) — your gateway to AI-powered data access. MCP lets you connect your Helium 10 account directly to AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor, enabling intelligent analysis of your data in real-time. This guide will walk you through setup, capabilities, and best practices.
What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that allows AI tools to connect securely to external data sources. Think of it as a secure bridge between Helium 10's powerful data and your favorite AI assistant.
The Problem MCP Solves
- Without MCP: Log into Helium 10 → Navigate to a tool → Export data → Paste into AI tool → Ask for analysis
- With MCP: Connect once → Ask your AI assistant a question → Receive insights based on live data
Real-World Examples
- "What keywords is ASIN B01LR5S6HK ranking for right now?"
- "Find high-potential products in the yoga mat category with over 500 monthly sales and less than 200 reviews."
- "Which of my products had the lowest net margin this month?"
- "Compare the keyword strategy of these three competitor ASINs."
Who Should Use MCP?
| User Type | Use Cases |
| General Sellers | Competitor analysis, keyword research, product research reports, strategic business Q&A |
| Technical Users & Integrators | Automated monitoring, multi-account aggregation, custom AI workflows, third-party integrations |
How Does MCP Work? How Does It Work with Helium 10?
The Architecture
When you ask your AI assistant a question, here's what happens behind the scenes:
- You ask a question: You type your request in Claude, ChatGPT, or another AI tool
- AI reads your query: The AI assistant decides which Helium 10 data tool(s) to call
- Secure data retrieval: Your Helium 10 account is authenticated via OAuth 2.0 — the AI never sees your credentials
- Data returned: Helium 10's servers send the requested data securely
- Analysis & response: The AI interprets the data and provides you with insights in plain language
Available Data Access
Helium 10 MCP provides access to 29+ tools across six major capability areas:
| Data Category | What You Can Access | Example Tools |
| Keyword Research | Reverse ASIN lookup, seed keyword expansion, keyword scoring, search volume & CPC metrics | Cerebro, Magnet |
| Product Research | Active products, discontinued products, keyword database, ABA (Brand Analytics) | Black Box |
| Rank Tracking | Tracked keywords, competitor rankings, rank history, new keyword suggestions | Keyword Tracker |
| Listing Analysis | Full listing details, quality scores, competitive comparison, keyword coverage gaps | Listing Analyzer |
| Profit Analytics | Account-level P&L, product profitability, fee breakdowns, historical trends | Profits |
| Advertising Data | Campaign performance, ROAS, ACoS, keyword-level ad data, cross-platform support | Ads |
How to Configure & Connect MCP
Before You Start
- Helium 10 Elite plan or higher
- A supported AI tool (Claude, ChatGPT Codex, or Cursor)
OAuth Browser Authorization
OAuth is the easiest method. Your AI tool opens a browser window for you to log in once, and everything else happens automatically. This is our recommended approach for most users.
Setup Steps
- Open your AI tool settings:
- Claude Web → Customize → Connectors
- Claude Desktop → Customize → Connected Applications
- Cursor → Settings → Features → MCP
- Find Helium 10 MCP: Search for "Helium 10 MCP" in available connectors
- Click Connect or Add: Select the connector and initiate the connection process
- Authorize in browser: Enter your Helium 10 credentials
- Choose the appropriate account, and approve the MCP connection by clicking “Continue”
Managing Your Connections
Once connected, you can view and manage your active MCP sessions:
- Go to Helium 10 → Settings → MCP → Authorized AI Clients Management (for OAuth)
- Revoke any connection or key you no longer use
Setting Expectations: What MCP Can & Cannot Do
✅ What MCP CAN Do
- Real-Time Data Access: Pull live data from your Helium 10 account instantly using the same data the dashboard displays
- Works with Popular AI Tools: Compatible with Claude, ChatGPT Codex, or Cursor
- Secure Data Handling: OAuth 2.0 authentication, end-to-end encrypted connections, no credential sharing, audit logs for all access
- Read-Only Access (V1): Access and analyze your data without the AI tool making any changes to your account
❌ What MCP CANNOT Do (Current Release)
| Limitation | Details |
| Write Access | MCP is read-only — cannot create campaigns, pause ads, adjust bids, or modify listings |
| Multi-Account Access | Each connection is tied to one Helium 10 account. Separate connections needed for each account |
| Real-Time Data | Data refreshes periodically (not live). Expect 5-15 second response times for queries |
Important Data Limitations
| Limitation | What This Means |
| Inactive Product History | Only products active within the last 360 days are searchable |
| Brand Analytics (ABA) | Requires Elite plan AND Amazon Brand Registry enrollment |
| Data Freshness | Most metrics update daily; ABA data updates weekly |
| Keyword Tracker Scope | Only returns keywords you've already added to Keyword Tracker |
| API Rate Limits | 10,000 calls/month |
Best Practices
💡 Query & Data Best Practices
Be specific in your prompts:
- ❌ Bad: "Find keywords"
- ✅ Good: "Find keywords that ASIN B01LR5S6HK is ranking for in the US marketplace"
When referencing Amazon products:
- Always use 10-character Amazon product identifier (ASIN), e.g., B01LR5S6HK
- Do not use SKU, UPC, EAN, or GTIN — these won't work
Specify the marketplace explicitly:
- Default is US marketplace. Say "…for the UK marketplace" or "…on Amazon Germany" if needed
For batch operations:
- Keyword batch analysis supports up to 200 keywords per request
- Split larger lists into multiple requests
⚡ Performance Best Practices
- Keep queries specific to reduce response time
- Limit data scope — only request fields and timeframes you need
- Space out large queries to avoid hitting monthly rate limits
- Simple queries typically take 2-5 seconds; complex reports take 5-15 seconds
Frequently Asked Questions
Is MCP included in my plan?
Yes! MCP is a free feature for all Elite and above plan members.
Which AI tools support MCP?
Any MCP-compatible client works with Helium 10. Currently supported: Claude (Web & Desktop), ChatGPT Codex, and Cursor.
Do I have to pay extra for MCP?
No. MCP is included in your plan with no additional fees. You have 10,000 API calls/month (typically sufficient for 500-1,000 conversations/month).
How many API calls does one question use?
It varies: Simple query (1-2 calls), Report with analysis (2-5 calls), Complex multi-step research (5-15 calls). A typical conversation with 5-10 questions uses 15-50 API calls total.
Why does my data look different between MCP and the Helium 10 dashboard?
Possible causes: Data freshness (pipeline updated at different times), metric definitions (parent vs. child ASIN level), currency units (some values in cents), or filters applied differently. Check filters and timestamps first. If data consistently looks wrong, contact Helium 10 support.
Why is my ASIN showing no data?
Common reasons: ASIN doesn't exist in Helium 10 for that marketplace, ASIN not added to Keyword Tracker yet (for tracker tools), product inactive for 360+ days, incorrect ASIN format (must be exactly 10 characters), or insufficient permissions for data type.
What does "permission denied" mean?
Some features require specific plans or program enrollment: ABA (Brand Analytics) requires Elite AND Brand Registry, Keyword sales data requires Platinum+ for North America only. If you believe you should have access, try reconnecting MCP or contact support.
Why is Keyword Tracker showing "null" or “none” for rank values?
“Null” or “None” means the ASIN isn't currently ranked in that surface (organic or sponsored). This is normal — for example, products without active Sponsored Ads campaigns will show null sponsored rank.
Can MCP make changes to my listings or campaigns?
No. MCP V1 is read-only — it retrieves and analyzes data only. All write actions (listing updates, bid adjustments, campaign creation) must be done in Helium 10 or Seller Central. Write capabilities are planned for future releases.
Is my data safe? Does the AI store it?
Helium 10 uses OAuth 2.0 (same standard as banking apps), so the AI never receives your credentials. Regarding storage: the AI processes your data to generate responses. How that data is handled is governed by the AI provider's privacy policy (e.g., Anthropic's Privacy Policy for Claude).
Why did the AI use different numbers for the same question asked twice?
The AI likely called the tool again and retrieved slightly updated data if the Helium 10 pipeline refreshed between requests. This is expected. Reference earlier data explicitly if you need consistent numbers for comparison.
My MCP connection stopped working. How do I fix it?
OAuth method: Disconnect and reconnect to refresh the OAuth token.
