How to Track Competitor Rankings in Keyword Tracker
Keyword Tracker isn’t just for monitoring your own product’s keyword rankings—it also allows you to compare your rankings with those of your competitors. Understanding how your product stacks up against others in the market gives you a strategic edge, especially when analyzing relative rank.
Why Track Competitor Rankings?
When you're assessing your performance, it's not always about being #1 overall. It’s about being #1 among your direct competitors. This is known as relative rank.
For example, if you're selling a high-end professional accordion, your competition isn’t the $20 toy version listed ahead of you on Amazon. It’s other professional models. If you rank first among those, you’re winning in your niche—even if you're technically 4th on the results page.
Tracking competitor ranks helps you:
-
Identify gaps in your SEO or advertising strategy
-
See if your competitors are outranking you consistently
-
Understand how changes in campaigns (like a launch or price drop) affect your visibility
How to Add Competitors in Keyword Tracker
-
Open Keyword Tracker and choose the product you're tracking.
-
Click Add next to the tracked keyword.
-
Enter up to five competitor ASINs (one per line) that closely match your product.
-
Click Save.
🔍 Tip: Choose ASINs that are direct competitors. Products that appeal to a different customer base won’t give you useful comparisons.
Viewing Competitor Data
Once added, you’ll see a comparative line graph showing:
-
Your product (always in light blue)
-
Your competitors’ rankings
-
A red line representing the group average (can be toggled off)
Even if you just added a competitor today, Helium 10 will show historical rank data from the time you started tracking your own product.
What Does the Graph Show?
-
Relative Rank: Displays your position among the competitors. For example, “3 out of 5” means you're the third-best ranked of the five ASINs tracked.
-
Amazon’s Choice Badges: This shows whether a competitor or your product had the badge when data was last collected.
-
Sponsored Rank: See where you and your competitors show up in Sponsored Ads. This can indicate bidding strategies.
-
Ranking ASINs: Displays how many of the tracked ASINs are ranking within the top 306 positions for a keyword.
Bonus: Match Ranking to Your Campaign History
If you're running promotions or ad campaigns, tracking competitor rank over time can help you connect performance to specific actions—like a launch or Search-Find-Buy strategy.
Pro Tip: Monitoring your competitors doesn’t cost extra keyword credits. Even if you're tracking a keyword across multiple ASINs, it only counts once in your usage total.
