How Do I Navigate the Keyword Tracker Dashboard?

Ready to launch a new product or a new ad campaign? Hopefully, you've already researched the best keywords in Cerebro, organized them in Frankenstein, and then optimized them in Scribbles. Now, it's time to monitor their effectiveness during a product launch. For that task, you need Keyword Tracker.

Tools like Cerebro and Magnet help you find the best keywords for your Amazon listings and sponsored ads. But, sometimes, a keyword that works well for a while loses its effectiveness, and other words suddenly become more popular, or you're testing new keywords in a product launch. Helium 10's Keyword Tracker allows you to automatically track the popularity of keywords on Amazon. Whether you're tracking your own products' keywords or your competitors', this tool lets you keep an eye on which keywords have (or continue to have) the power to increase product visibility and sales. This tutorial reviews Keyword Tracker's basic dashboard and its main features.

1. Open Keyword Tracker from the Tools menu.

On the dashboard, in the upper left corner, you'll see how many keyword trackings you have available, along with the number of keywords you can Rocket Boost at any given time.

How many keywords you can track concurrently depends on the plan subscription you sign up for. All of the plans allow you to Boost up to 10% of your tracked keywords simultaneously.

Normally, Helium 10's Keyword Tracker collects Amazon data on your keywords every seven days, or once a week. The only exception is the keywords’ rank, which is updated every 24 hours, and if you want to track a keyword more frequently, the Rocket Boost will automate hourly tracking, for up to ten days.

2. When you click on the + Add New Product button in the top right corner, the Track Keywords window opens. There you can add the product's ASIN or URL, and the related list of keywords, that you want Helium 10 to track for you. You can type in your keywords, or cut and paste them from Cerebro, Magnet, or Frankenstein. You'll need to limit each line to one keyword.

3. The Track Keywords window is where you choose which marketplace you want the tool to track. You can track keywords in multiple markets at the same time, though each marketplace/keyword combo counts as one of the tracked keywords.

4. After pasting in the ASIN or URL and the list of keywords, click on the green Start Tracking button in the lower right corner of the window.

5. Since it can take up to an hour for the tool to collect all the data from Amazon, a window pops open to notify you that your request is being processed.

6. When sufficient time has passed, you can click anywhere in the product box to open the tracked keyword list.

7. After reviewing the list, you may want to add more keywords, delete keywords, or delete the whole product from your current tracking data to replace it with another product and new keywords. All of these changes can be managed from the dashboard.

8. If you click on Add Keywords under Actions, a window will open, where you can add more keywords to track. Again, it may take up to an hour for the newly added words to appear in the keywords tracking data list.

9. You can sort the list by clicking on the results column headings.

10. Keyword Tracker generally searches the position of a word once every 24 hours. If you're running an ad campaign and want more immediate data, Keyword Tracker has the Boost feature. When you Boost a keyword or phrase, Helium 10 extracts data every hour and graphs it for you. To Boost a keyword or phrase, click on the small rocket icon next to the keyword/phrase. When it turns from black to red, Boost is activated.

You can also see how many keywords you have Boosted in the upper left corner of the dashboard. A countdown clock appears next to the red rocket to help you track the time left in your boost. You can turn the boost off and on again at any time during the ten days to reset the clock back to ten days.

As long as you keep the product and the keyword(s) or phrase(s) in Keyword Tracker, Helium 10 collects data for you. If you delete the product or a keyword from the list though, you are also deleting the data. A warning window will appear if you click to delete a keyword or phrase. Once the data is deleted, it cannot be retrieved. Anytime you delete a product and its keywords, Helium 10 recommends that you export the data first.

11. To export your data, click on the green Export button in the upper right side of the results window.

12. You can track a keyword or phrase indefinitely. Each Boost request, though, only lasts 10 days. (To sustain the Boost, you'll need to re-activate it again when the time expires.) To view the results, click on the mini graph icon in the keyword's row under the Trend column. You can also open the window by clicking on the graph icon under the Actions column.

13. If you want to document notes and ideas related to a keyword, you can click on the ADD link under the Notes column. A small window opens where you can type in comments and save them for later review.

14. Keyword Tracker also reports the product's BSR history. Click on View BSR History in the dropdown menu under the Actions column.

15. Once you've got a lot of keywords and phrases in the Keyword Tracker, it might be hard to keep track of which products are tied to which campaigns. Keyword Tracker lets you tag keywords with one of five colored stars, which you can individually name. So for example, if you were running an ad campaign with the imaginary X Ad Company using a specific set of keywords or phrases, you can tag them to make it easier to see the results.

To name a star, first, you need to assign it to an initial keyword or phrase. Tag one of the keywords with the colored star by clicking on the dark gray star to open the Star window. You can set a name for each color.

16. Now, you can tag the product's listed keywords and phrases with this colored star. You can use the star filter to filter the viewable keywords in the table to ones only tagged with that specific colored star.

17. In addition to filtering by assigned color-coded stars, you can filter by specific keywords. Type the word into the text field box under the product name and hit enter.

18. To limit the total number of viewable keywords on the page, click on the Keywords per page filter and select the number range you want from the drop-down menu.

19. You can use Keyword Tracker to see how your keywords are working for your competitors, by adding competing product ASINs to the data results. Click on the blue Add link under the Competitors column for a specific product. A window will open into which you can paste up to five ASINs per product.

20. The competing ASINs will appear in the Competitors' column, and three additional columns will appear in the results: Relative Rank, Rank Avg, and Ranking ASINs. In these columns, Keyword Tracker reports the position of your primary product in relation to the competing products.

21. The Relative Rank reports where the queried product ranks in relation to the competing products for the keyword or phrase. The Ranking ASINs column reports how many of the ASINs (queried ASIN + competing ASINs) are ranking in the top 306 products for the selected keyword or phrase. The Rank Avg reports the average rank in total of the ranking ASINs in the product query.

If the queried product and all of the added competing products are ranking, you'll get a 4/4 or 5/5 number. But, if you get a 2/5, for example, That means that only two of the five products are positioned at 306 or above. You may want to see which of the ASINs is ranked in the top 306. Click on the number under the Rank Avg column to open a graph with the details.

22. The graph presents the data using a color-coded system. The key for the color coding is located at the bottom of the graph.

23. You can roll your cursor over the graphed lines to make a window pop up with the specific ASINs and positions.
